Some of the time
Pity = Sympathy + Hatred.
but more often than not,
Pity = Sympathy + Disgust.
And the disgust leads to hatred and the sympathy leads to self hatred.

Why???
Pity that pity isn't a nice word.
I like empathy & respect though.
=^..^=
when empathy goes with respect, the respect becomes solipsistic [i may have spelled this incorrectly if so i will correct it later] inso much as the respect for this person is a extension of you're self respect hence when empathise with someone you can only respect them if you have respect for you'r self. as for why you only have to look at how people treat beggers they may give them money but they rarely talk to them and try to avoid touching them. pity and respect do not make good bed fellows. i can have no respect for someone who begs, begging is a degenarate form of request.
when you beg you put you;r self bellow the person you beg of, when you ask you make you their equal, when you request you put you're self slightly above them and when you demand you put you'r self greatly above them. the trick is to find the right one for the situation begging can often be used to make you'r self so disgusting to the person that they simply leave you alone but i would suggest that it should only be used when in quite dire need, such as violence, theft of much needed money or other such possesions.
When begging is associated with whining, then it is indeed a degenerate thing.
Asking for help from friends who care -- no whining should be there, cause you know they will help however they can.
Respect of others is indeed a golden rule application.

True friends who care practice "Turnabout's Fair Play."
A rare a precious jewel is a true friend.
asking isn't begging.
whining is particualar sort of complaining those who beg rarely complain they have to little self to think they deserve any better than they have, this is not me being against the poor or hungry or those in need of shelter theres a difference between a begger a tramp and a street person and for thae most part it has nothing to do with reletive situations its all to do with how that persons views themselve for instance how much self respect the have and what sort of person they are.
