Knife Crime

This is something that i sent into london radio station (LBC) suffice it to say that it was not read out.

When i was a child i would often carry around knife, such as a small hunting knife or a pen knife, i had no intention of stabbing anyone, i just liked the knife, i thought it was cool, but had i been picked up by the police and given a jail sentence, i would have been criminalised, may well have ended up as a criminal, certainly the likelihood of this happening would have been put up, having mandatory sentences for possession of a knife, ultimately will not curtail knife crime, and in the long term will end up putting crime up overall.
whats more if a person is carrying a knife because they don't feel that the streets are safe and feel that they need to carry one as protection, and you tell them that they can't do that, then from their perspective you are basically saying that they don't have a right to protect themselves, they are unlikely to listen to this or heed it and who can blame them.

Again... back to Edgar Richards, who will have to be physically cared for the rest of his life...

Last year, before I met him in the court ordered Anger Mgmt class, Edgar voluntarily flagged down a police car to get help to get to Good Shepherd, a shelter that has medical staff for folks like him (manic/depressive). He was out of his meds and no money.

He had a knife that he kept on his person just for safety reasons. He meant to leave it at home. He tried to give it to the police officer, but his physical handicaps caused his hands to shake. The knife allegedly "bounced" on the officer's (police woman) chest.

Instead of going to Good Shepherd, he was booked and not even given the right medication he needed.

What was this man doing in a jail system that has no medical facilities and just a low level nurse?

Then just send him to a basic level class that just hands out pamphlets? Like forcing a Ph.D engineering candidate to watch Teletubbie Reruns.

Of course he winds back up in jail cause he didn't finish his "court appointed" class. Where lowlifes with badges and authority to maim ruthlessly destroy what human dignity Edgar had left.

Crazy. Crazy.

I would rather be in France.

Or Harefield, England.

Love that little village.

Not far from South Ruislip or Uxbridge.
